Goodoil director Michael Spiccia, has won the Dendy Award for Best Live Action Short at the
Sydney Film Festival for his film Yardbird.
As the only Australian film in competition at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, Yardbird was
recognised by the Dendy judges as "an exceptional film, both in content and form, underpinned by a striking, central performance."
The script by Julius Avery and produced by Jessica Mitchell of Buffalo Films tells the tale of a young girl who lives in a wrecking yard and takes on the local bullies who travel out to torment her father.
As a result of winning the Best Live Action Short, Yardbird is now eligible for an Academy Award nomination and has also been invited to screen at the Melbourne International Film Festival in August this year.
